The Ministry of Industry and Trade supported the extension of zero duties on the import of electric vehicles into the Russian Federation

The Ministry of Industry and Trade supports the extension of the zero rate of customs duty on the import of electric vehicles to Russia, but the position of the department may change in the future, said the head of the ministry Denis Manturov at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

"Of course. Because there is such a right, and it must always be retained. Another question: there are, for example, industries where we cannot raise duties, because the level of binding under the agreement with the WTO prohibits us from doing this. And here how since there is such an opportunity, so we can maneuver depending on how the production components will be formed, "Manturov said, answering a question from RIA Novosti about supporting the extension of zero duties on electric vehicles and the possibility of changing this position.

In May 2020, the duty on the import of electric cars to Russia and other EAEU countries was zeroed to stimulate the creation of charging infrastructure. The measure will last until the end of this year.

On May 20, Kommersant, referring to the draft amendments to the unified Commodity Nomenclature of Foreign Economic Activity, reported that the EAEU countries, including Russia, are planning to abolish the preferential zero duty on the import of electric vehicles. According to the newspaper, the benefits will be canceled from 2022, and the duty rate will be 15% of the customs value.

As of January 1, 2021, 10,836 electric vehicles were registered in Russia, according to the analytical agency Avtostat. Compared to last year, the Russian fleet of electric cars has grown by 71%.

At the same time, 386 used electric vehicles were sold in Russia in February this year, which is 43% more than in February 2020.
