Georgia opens land borders

Georgia has lifted restrictions on crossing the land border, reports on Tuesday, June 1, the Georgian "First Channel".

"The land borders will open from June 1, and the border can be crossed if you have a document confirming the complete vaccination and a negative PCR test result or only a negative test result within the last 72 hours," said the head of the operational headquarters of the interdepartmental coordinating council for combating coronavirus Georgy Gibradze.

The corresponding decision of the Georgian authorities became known on May 25. Gibradze then recommended that all foreign visitors have medical insurance with them, which, if necessary, will cover the costs of COVID-19 treatment.

According to the general director of the Pink Elephant travel agency network Aleksan Mkrtchyan, a massive flow of tourists from Russia to Georgia is not expected, because the air borders between the countries are still closed, and other ways to get there are less convenient.

In late February, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced the addition of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to the list of countries from which citizens can enter the republic by air with a document that confirms a negative PCR test for coronavirus. The order came into force on March 1.

The restrictions due to the coronavirus were introduced in the country on February 28, 2020, Gazeta.ru specifies.
